Group 2 SLS Canceled

The planned Group 2 Squadron Leadership School Course has been canceled!
 
 
 
The next opportunity to atttend an SLS in Virginia Wing is February 13th & 14th at the Minuteman Composite Squadron in Culpepper VA, sponsored by Group 3.
Details are provided below by the Course Director.
 
This course is for Senior Members. 
 
The prerequisites to enroll are completion of Level 1 and enrollment in 1 or more Specialty Tracks.  Completion of Level 1 and enrollment in a specialty track must reflect on your capwatch inqury when applying for enrollment.  You must complete a CAPF-17, have it approved by your Unit CC, and your application received by the Course Director no later than January 29th.   This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Group 3 hosted

Squadron Leadership School

 

Group 3, VA Wing  will host a Squadron Leadership School (SLS) on February 13th & 14th at Minuteman Composite Squadron Building in Culpeper, VA.  The squadron building in located on the Culpeper Airport property just behind the FBO.  Please plan to arrive no later than 7:30AM each day as class is scheduled to start at 8:00AM.  Each student is asked to donate $10 to cover expenses associated with this course.  Applications ( CAPF 17 – signed by your commander) for attendance must be received by the course director no later than January 29th. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).  There are limited seats (20) so get that application in quickly-  in order to reserve your seat.  Attendance is open to all VA Wing CAP members.  (Also open to personnel from other Wings if space is available.) 

 

There are no eating facilities located at the FBO – so you may wish to bring your lunch or snacks for each day.

The Minuteman Squadron has water and sodas available for a small fee.

 

Instructors are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your class delivery.   Each instructor is asked to bring at least 24 copies of your power point presentation for student hand outs.

 

Course attendance pre-read.  Please take the time to read the Tongue and Quill excepts  listed for “The Staff Officer as a Communicator” seminar. 


Also, please bring with you a copy of the following CAP publications with you.  You will need these during the section where we discuss the “Individualized Training” seminar.

Southside Members Receive Numerous Awards

Congratulations to our Senior Members and Cadets who were recognized at the 2009 Virginia Wing Conference! The following members were recognized as the "Of The Year" for their particular duty position. It is important to remember that we are all volunteers and the time and effort you all dedicate to our squadron is what makes it the great squadron that it is!

Along with the Senior Members who were recognized. One of Southside's own cadets was recognized as the Cadet of the Year for 2009 in Virginia Wing. Congratulations to C/LtCol Jacob Butts for this great achievement!

 

Unit holds Change of Command Ceremony

McManus receives Commander InsigniaCaptain Michael McManus assumed command of the Southside Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol on Tuesday, April 7, in a formal ceremony held at the Virginia Wing headquarters in Richmond, VA.

The change of command ceremony, presided over by Captain Jim Byrd, the Group Two commander, marked the transition of command to McManus, from Major Michael Girardi who has led the Southside Composite Squadron since 2006.

The event featured the traditional passing of the colors, signifying the change of command authority from Girardi to McManus. The unit’s cadets also held a pass in review for the new unit commander.

Byrd recognized Girardi for his service to the unit by presenting him a Civil Air Patrol Achievement Award and a Commander’s Commendation Award. Girardi received the first Civil Air Patrol Achievement Award awarded by Group Two.

During the ceremony, Byrd also recognized Captain Cheryl Girardi and First Lieutenant Peggy Emiliani with Certificates of Appreciation for their hard work and dedication with the CAP Cadet Program.
